Hiking Mont-Rebei Gorge

If you're looking for an incredible day trip hike in Catalunya, Spain, look no further than the Mont-Rebei Gorge.  About a 2 hour and 40 minute drive from Barcelona, this scenic hike will not disappoint! We absolutely love the outdoors and were so excited to head north of Barcelona to the mountains and some beautiful fall colors with some of our closest friends this past November.

This hike is one of our favorite in the region!  The terrain is varied but the trail is easy enough to be enjoyed by experienced and inexperienced trekkers alike. The trail follows the light blue/green Noguera Ribagorzana river that flows from the nearby Pyrenees Mortician mountains which divide Spain from France.  The river cuts through the Montsec massif, a limestone rock that rises more than 3,280 feet above the surrounding terrain.

The trek begins at the La Masieta parking area, about 3.7 miles from the Huesca village of Puenta de Montanana.  The trail is cut out of the rising cliffs on the left side of the river as you head upstream and might be a little scary for those who are afraid of heights.  If you would rather explore the gorge by water, you can rent kayaks from Kayaking Mont-Rebei and glide through the tranquil waters while you admire the incredible scenery from a different perspective.

Also, be sure you don't miss the thrilling suspension bridges and cliff-side staircase!  Pack a lunch and enough water and get out there!
