Mushrooms take a central role in much of the diet here in Catalunya. You can find them in a variety of dishes alongside of other traditional Mediterranean cuisine like fresh olives, produce, fish, and cheese. It just so happens to be the mushroom season in mid November, and some of our friends from Barcelona invited us to go mushroom hunting with them in the "campo" or the countryside, about 2 hours outside of Barcelona. Our "hunting" party of 8 ventured out into the woods to find more species of mushrooms than I ever knew existed. Of course only about a quarter of the ones we found were actually edible, but they do make for a pretty incredible photo subject.
